Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety can make life feel smaller than it needs to be.

You may find yourself constantly worrying, overthinking situations, anticipating what might go wrong or struggling to switch off. Perhaps you're experiencing physical symptoms of anxiety, finding it difficult to relax, or noticing that anxiety is affecting your relationships, confidence or everyday life. Sometimes you may not even be sure what you're anxious about. You just know that you're finding it harder to cope, and that your mind doesn't seem to ever stop..

Therapy can provide a space to understand what's happening and begin to find ways of feeling more in control.

Working with anxiety in the here and now

From a solution-focused perspective, we can look at what is happening in your life now and explore what might help you manage anxiety differently.

This might involve identifying situations that trigger anxiety, recognising what already helps, developing different ways of responding to difficult thoughts and feelings, and focusing on small changes that can make everyday life feel more manageable.

The aim isn't necessarily to eliminate anxiety completely, but to help you feel less controlled by it.

Understanding where your anxiety comes from

A psychodynamic approach can help us look beneath the anxiety and explore what might be driving it.

Sometimes anxiety is connected to experiences from earlier in life, relationships, expectations or ways of coping that developed over time. You may find yourself reacting strongly to situations without fully understanding why, or repeating patterns that leave you feeling anxious, uncertain or overwhelmed.

Together, we can explore these patterns and consider how past and present experiences may be shaping the way you think, feel and relate to yourself and others.

Developing this understanding can sometimes make it easier to respond differently and create lasting change.

A flexible approach to anxiety therapy

I draw on both approaches depending on what feels most useful to you. Sometimes we may need to focus on what can help you feel better now. At other times, it may be important to slow down and understand why you experience anxiety in the way that you do.

There doesn't need to be a choice between the two.

You may want practical strategies to help you manage anxiety while also wanting to understand the deeper patterns behind it. We can work with both.

You don't have to figure it out on your own

Whether you're struggling with constant worry, overthinking, relationship anxiety, self-doubt or a general sense of feeling on edge, therapy can give you the opportunity to step back and understand what's happening.

You don't need to know exactly why you're anxious or what you need from therapy before you begin. We can work that out together.
